Record number of job seekers show up at Kings Island

The first day of a two-day job fair this weekend attracted 2,335 job seekers Saturday, the largest single-day turnout for a job fair in the park's 38-year history. Kings Island plans to hire more than 4,000 workers for the 2010 operating season, which begins April 17.

The job fair will be held again Sunday, from 10am to 4pm. Apply online in advance at http://www.visitkingsisland.com/, then come out to the job fair for an interview.

Former Kings Island rides associate covering Olympics for NBC

Lewis Johnson, a former rides supervisor on the Beast and Racer roller coasters at Kings Island (1981-83), is reporting from his sixth Olympic Games in Vancouver for NBC, working alongside Bob Papa covering the following three disciplines: Bobsled, Luge and Skeleton.

More than 4,000 seasonal associates needed for 2010 operating season

Kings Island will host job fairs Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the park (6300 Kings Island Drive).

Associates are needed in all areas of park operation, including admissions, call center, cash control, entertainment, food and beverage, fire and safety, games, guest services, lifeguards, merchandise, rides, security, sweeps and warehouse. Anyone 15 years of age or older who wants an exciting and rewarding place to work this summer can learn more about the different departments and opportunities at http://www.visitkingsisland.com/. Kings Island to hold entertainer auditions for 2010 season February 20-21

Kings Island will hold entertainment auditions and interviews for the 2010 season February 20-21 in the Kings Island Theater. Auditions and interviews for singers, technicians, Peanuts characters and costume staff will be held from 10:00am - 1:00pm, and dancers beginning at 1:00pm each day.

We are currently casting singers for a Motown Revue, a TV Theme Song Revue, a Country Show and contemporary Pop shows. Those auditioning as a singer should prepare two songs of their choice. One up-tempo and one ballad. Piano accompaniment will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the proper key. You may also sing with a pre-recorded CD provided the CD doesn’t include lead vocals. Singers should bring a one page resume and a head shot. Singers may be asked to stay for the dance audition.

Those interviewing for a Technical or Costume position should bring a resume. Those auditioning as a Peanut’s Character should be prepared for a small movement audition. Those auditioning as a Dancer should wear appropriate attire. You will be taught a dance combination.

Ride merchanics have completed winter maintenance on one of the Diamondack trains, as cars for the 230-foot tall steel roller coaster were delivered back to the ride and hoisted up to the train storage area on Tuesday.

Crypt ridership up in 2009

The adjustment to the Crypt ride program for the 2009 season accounted for an increase in ridership of 91,987 from the previous year. The ride also had 100 hours less downtown than the previous year.

Ahh yes. I remember that day well

One year ago today (January 26, 2009), workmen finished installing track on the Diamondback roller coaster at Kings Island. Track piece #129 was the final piece of track installed on the 5,282 foot-long $22 million steel coaster, being hoisted into place at 2:42pm. It took the Adena Corporation a total of 161 days to erect the ride after the first piece of track was installed in the splashdown area on August 18, 2008. Diamondback opened to rave reviews, giving more than 1.8 million thrilling rides in its debut season.

Beast in rebuilding mode

Terry Jones, a ride mechanic at Kings Island, rebuilds the side of a Beast roller coaster car in the wood coaster maintenance shop on Thursday. The legendary Beast will be ready to thrill riders when Kings Island opens for the 2010 season April 17.

Peanuts plush arrives at Kings Island

Sarah Gredig, area manager, merchandise at Kings Island, pulls a gigantic Snoopy plush stuffed animal out of a box in the park's warehouse on Friday. Hundreds of boxes of Peanuts-themed plush arrived this week as the park prepares for the debut of the all-new Planet Snoopy in April.
